The flavor of the chicken and rice with the teriyaki sauce was really good and is exactly what you would be expecting in a Teriyaki dish. However, the veggies left a LOT to be desired. The portion of veggies was TINY. A very sad attempt at a "side". This dish would have been amazing if there had been 3 big broccoli florets and hearty chunks of carrot rather than tiny slivers of each. The flavor of the veggies was fine, especially mixed in with the rest of the dish. The ratio of chicken and rice to veggies was just way off.
This dish came in at 410 calories. While it is relatively low in calories, low in fat (9 g) and high in protein (31 g), it contained a whopping 11 g of ADDED sugar. I'm sure this is what gave the Teriyaki Sauce such a great flavor, but 11 g seems excessive and ideally I would like to stay away from all added sugar. It's hard to tell from the ingredient list what the added sugar was - might have been the coconut sap? In which case, maybe it is a better alternative than other added sugars could be? However, there are other things on the ingredient list that I would prefer not to see - such as Lactic Acid and Baking Soda? Any time I see an ingredient that would not have been in my recipe had I made it at home, I am a little skeptical.
This came in my first box of Freshly meals, so after using a $20 promo code, this dish ended up only costing $6.50.
Will I Re-order?
Maybe. This could go in my rotation of meals, but I think I would have to supply my own side of veggies to go along with it - which honestly, is kind of annoying and not the purpose of buying the fully-cooked meals!
